Physio Review I can’t recommend these two sisters highly enough! They are incredibly hands-on and skilled, and after each session, I can genuinely feel the blood flow improving. I always leave feeling so much better. I thoroughly enjoy my physio sessions and make sure not to be late because I know how beneficial they are. Beyond their expertise, they’re also super friendly, making every visit a great experience. Their boutique clinic in Collaroy has such a welcoming atmosphere. If you’re looking for top-notch physios who truly care, this is the place to go!

Georgia has been able to massively reduce the neck and back pain that had developed due to long hours I spent sitting at a desk and hunched over one screen or another. I had also developed a reduced range of motion and stiffness and tightness in my neck. Georgia has significantly improved that as well. I highly recommend Georgia! She also happens to be smart, funny, open-minded, and very warm and welcoming.

The girls at FlexiFit have literally put me back together. Whilst still a work in progress; the difference from when I started going to them, to now, is chalk & cheese. Not to mention the incredible customer service & the genuinely kind people Tess & Georgia are. I highly HIGHLY recommend them for all your needs !!

Hands down the best physio experience I’ve ever had! Georgia and Tessa are absolute incredible —super kind and just really great people to be around. I came in feeling pretty rough, and the difference after my sessions has been amazing. I’m moving so much better and feeling stronger already. They really take the time to understand what you need and make the whole process easy and enjoyable.

Georgia and Flexifit physio are the absolute bomb. I had a bunged AC joint in my shoulder and bursitis. I had immense sharp pain and could not do anything that I usually did. After a few sessions from Georgia and doing (only half) the rehab myself that she suggested,😝 my shoulder is back to 100%. And I am back surfing every day and able to play the drums again. I could not have done it without her physical manipulation skills and Motivational advice. Thank you so much For helping me avoid surgery.

Fantastic service from both Georgia and Tessa. Always very accommodating of last minute changes. Always have a smile on their faces and a friendly and professional demeanor. Top notch service, highly recommended.

I’ve seen both Tessa and Georgia on and off for years; they’re the BEST. Both of them are so knowledgeable when it comes to finding the right spots to release tension. You also get a great chat, they are genuinely interested in their clients. You’ll need to take a deep breath when they hit those tricky spots but it’s worth it, I’m addicted!!

I highly recommend Georgia and Tessa for anyone seeking professional and effective physiotherapy care. I’ve been a patient of both for many years and they have helped me (and my kids) through some pretty gruelling pain and injuries. They take the time to thoroughly assess my condition and explain the treatment plan in a way that is easy to understand. The exercises and treatments provided are tailored specifically to my needs, and I notice significant improvement in my pain and mobility after just a few visits. Both Georgia and Tessa are not only knowledgeable but also incredibly caring making each session a positive experience.Thank you to both for your excellent care.

Georgia has been amazing! Always friendly and up for a chat. But most importantly she certainly knows her stuff not only fixing issues but helping prevent them as well. Highly recommend.

I was referred to Georgia by an Orthopaedic Surgeon following an elbow fracture. I couldn’t be more happy with Flexifit - my elbow is improving each week and the practice is a pleasure to visit.

Georgia could not have been more caring and wonderful with our 13 year old daughter. Her treatments were not only effective but she also offered lots of great advice and a plan for going forward. Georgia also treated me and it was so good I only needed one session. Can’t recommend FlexiFit highly enough. Thanks Georgia! 🙏🏻💙

Knowledgeable and cost effective treatment

Georgia is a brilliant physio. She quickly diagnosed my problem and worked on a plan with me to get me moving again.

Georgia was awesome treating me when I was experiencing quite severe knee pain - she gave me a series of exercises as well as her treatment strategies with a very successful result. Thank-you so much Flexifit

Georgia provides exceptional service and has helped me immensely with my chronic lower back issues and degenerative arthritis. She works hard to keep my pain managed and provides me with knowledgeable advice specific to my injuries. If you are seeking a physio who truly cares and works hard to target specific issues, then look no further; it's so great to walk out of her clinic with complete relief.

I have been attending this practice since they opened and have had no hesitation in recommending Flexifit to my friends. Georgia and Tess are both professional women and the studio is so calming, beautifully spotlessly clean. It’s a treat to attend their business. The work they both do is amazing.

Flexifit is absolutely brilliant! Georgia has been my Physio for the past couple of months and she has been helping me with neck pain/migraines and knee pain. She has provided me with incredible hands-on physical support, as well as a specific and structured at-home exercise plan, that she created and adjusted based on my circumstances. Alongside the actual Physiotherapy aspect, the team at Flexifit have always been super accommodating towards my work schedule and have been happy to shuffle around appointments at the last minute. They are amazing and I can’t thank Georgia enough!

The ladies here do the best work of any physio I’ve ever been to and I’ve visited a few. Not only are they great at their job but they are nice to chat with as well. Definitely recommend them but just don’t come and steal my appointments! 😁

Georgia has treated me for three separate issues over the last four years - both in Gordon and now Collaroy I have been impressed with her competency and professionalism on each occasion. My local GP in the upper North Shore was so impressed with how well Georgia has treated my latest issue, he took all her details and said he was thinking of referring his patients that were prepared to travel from the upper North Shore to Collayoy.

Thank god I found this place. I have been suffering for years with neck and back pain, after playing baseball for years, and being a brow and lash artist for the last 5 years, I was constantly in pain and my posture was terrible. Georgia has been working her magic on me for a few months now and I have never felt so good. I can actually move my neck freely now without pain, and Georgia has given me some fantastic advise on how to best manage my training sessions with my personal trainer and the way in which I sit during work. The studio is so clean and provides a relaxing environment, and Georgia and her sister are so lovely and knowledgeable.

I have seen Georgia for a very troublesome shoulder issue I had for years. I am not able to explain adequately how impressed I am with the final result. I still cannot believe I have a pain free shoulder. Thank you Flexifit 🙏.

For the past few months I have had the pleasure of receiving physiotherapy treatment from Tessa at FlexiFit Physiotherapy in Collaroy for an ongoing neck & back issue, and I must say it has been an exceptional experience. From the moment I walked into the clinic, I was greeted with a warm and friendly atmosphere, which immediately put me at ease. Tessa demonstrated a high level of professionalism and expertise throughout my sessions. She took the time to thoroughly assess my condition, listening attentively to my concerns and addressing them with the utmost care. Her extensive knowledge and understanding of the human body were evident in her ability to accurately diagnose and develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to my specific needs. What truly impressed me was Tessa’'s ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and concise manner. She patiently guided me through each step of the treatment process, ensuring that I understood the purpose and benefits of each exercise or technique. This not only empowered me to actively participate in my own recovery but also instilled a sense of trust and confidence in her abilities. I am delighted to say that thanks to Tessa's expertise and guidance, I have experienced significant improvement in my condition. Her holistic approach, combining manual therapy, exercise prescription, and education, has not only alleviated my pain but also equipped me with the tools to prevent future injuries. I highly recommend FlexiFit Physio to anyone in need of physiotherapy services. Their professionalism, expertise, and genuine care for their patients make them an outstanding practitioner in their field. I am very grateful for the positive impact they have had on my health and well-being.

I can’t recommend the team at Flexifit highly enough! I’ve had chronic shoulder problems for 2 years and seen other specialists which hadn’t solved the problem. Tessa at Flexifit sourced the problem and after the first session, my shoulders were sitting aligned - the first time that’s happened in 2 years. I felt validated with the pain I was in and feel so much more positive about my treatment pathway with Flexifit.

Georgia’s brilliant and excels in all the areas I want from a physio - diagnosing/figuring out the prob, massage and physical work, and then exercises to do at home to help long term. Worth the 40 minute drive!

I've been seeing Georgia and Tessa from FlexiFit for the last year, and they have both been outstanding. They are caring, compassionate and highly skilled. They have assisted me with managing multiple injuries and I've referred several members of my family who are equally impressed with their services! Thank you, Georgia and Tessa, you guys are amazing!

The girls at FlexiFit are simply amazing. So kind, friendly, understanding and knowledgeable. They know exactly what my body needs. My neck pain has improved dramatically since going here. Love my visits!

Deep Tissue Massage Vs Swedish Massage

Deep Tissue Massage Vs Swedish Massage: Which One Fits You?

Choosing between deep tissue vs Swedish massage can be a bit confusing, especially with their distinct benefits and techniques. Whether you’re seeking relief from chronic muscle tension or just looking for a relaxing escape, understanding the differences between these two popular massage styles is crucial.

Swedish massage offers a soothing experience with its long strokes using light to firm pressure, ideal for general relaxation. In contrast, deep tissue massage uses significant pressure to target deep-seated muscle tension, which provides relief for those with persistent muscle discomfort.

In this blog, we’ll explore how deep tissue and Swedish massages compare and help you determine which one best fits your needs and preferences.

Deep Tissue Massage Vs Swedish Massage – A Quick Answer

When deciding between deep tissue massage and Swedish massage, the key lies in your personal needs and physical condition. Swedish massage is characterised by long, flowing strokes that promote relaxation and increase circulation. This gentle approach is particularly suited for those new to massage or seeking a calming session.

Conversely, deep tissue massage uses precise, intense pressure that reaches deeper muscle layers, ideal for addressing chronic pain or recovery from injury. This type of massage is more focused and therapeutic, aimed at those who require a more robust treatment to alleviate deep-set tension and discomfort.

What Happens in Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep tissue massage, a therapy rooted in deeper pressure beneficial for chronic muscle tension, involves applying firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia. This technique is specifically designed to realign layers of muscles and connective tissue, addressing areas of discomfort far beneath the surface.

The focused application targets problematic areas, such as stiff necks, lower back pain and tight leg muscles. Therapists may use their fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows and forearms to apply the necessary pressure that leads to relief of tension and pain.

Deep Tissue Massage is Best For?

Deep tissue massage is particularly effective for those needing targeted muscle relief. Let’s review the list of individuals who benefit most from this intensive therapy.

  1. Athletes: Enhances recovery and reduces the risk of injuries by relieving muscle tension and improving flexibility.
  2. Individuals with Chronic Pain: Provides deep muscular release, offering long-term pain relief that can be more effective than traditional medical treatments.
  3. Post-surgery Patients: Helps reduce scar tissue and promotes faster healing by enhancing lymphatic circulation and breaking down fibrosis.
  4. Office Workers with Repetitive Strain Injuries: Alleviates the effects of prolonged sitting or repetitive motion, which often leads to chronic back, neck and shoulder pain.
  5. Elderly Individuals: Assists in maintaining muscle elasticity and reducing stiffness, which can improve mobility and decrease pain associated with ageing conditions like arthritis.

Who Benefits Most from Deep Tissue Massage?

From reducing deep-seated pain to enhancing mobility, deep tissue massage offers significant health benefits. Have a look at these benefits to understand its powerful impact.

  1. Reduces Chronic Pain: Deep tissue massage targets the source of deep muscle tension, which reduces pain levels significantly over time.
  2. Improves Blood Pressure: Regular sessions can help lower blood pressure by promoting relaxation and stress relief, enhancing overall cardiovascular health.
  3. Breaks Up Scar Tissue: It improves flexibility and range of motion by breaking down internal scar tissue that forms following injuries or surgery.
  4. Enhances Post-Exercise Recovery: This massage therapy accelerates the recovery process by flushing out toxins and reducing muscle soreness after intense physical activity.
  5. Boosts Emotional Well-being: The intense pressure of deep tissue massage helps release serotonin and endorphins, which contributes to improved mood and emotional health.

What Happens in Swedish Massage?

Swedish massage, with its gentler approach compared to deep tissue massage, uses softer strokes on bony and delicate areas while using stronger pressure on muscles with thicker coverage. This adjustment in pressure makes it an ideal massage for relaxation and tension relief.

The environment for Swedish massage is designed to relax. Light to medium pressure facilitates the flow of blood and lymphatic fluid, promoting detoxification and relaxation.

Who Benefits Most from Swedish Massage?

Perfect for those seeking gentle relaxation, Swedish massage appeals to a wide range of people. Let’s explore who can benefit the most from this soothing technique.

  1. Individuals with Everyday Stress: Provides a peaceful escape for those looking to decompress from daily pressures.
  2. People Seeking Relaxation: Ideal for those who need a break to rejuvenate their mind and body.
  3. Elderly Clients: Offers a gentle approach that eases aches and pains without overwhelming the body.
  4. Beginners to Massage: A great introductory therapy for those new to the experience, providing a gentle introduction to bodywork.
  5. Pregnant Women: Often adapted into a prenatal massage to support physiological changes and reduce pregnancy discomfort.
  6. Post-operative Recovery: Aids in gentle recovery and circulatory improvement without intensive manipulation.

Benefits of Swedish Massage

Discover the calming and restorative effects of Swedish massage. Check out its benefits to see how it enhances overall wellness and reduces stress.

  1. Increases Blood Circulation: Helps transport nutrients and oxygen to body tissues, which aids muscle recovery and overall health.
  2. Promotes Mental Clarity: Reduces mental stress and enhances cognitive function, leading to improved focus and clarity.
  3. Enhances Relaxation: Induces deep relaxation, potentially improving sleep patterns and overall well-being.
  4. Reduces Muscle Tension: Gentle strokes help release knots and muscle tightness, which offers relief from muscle pain and stiffness.
  5. Boosts Immune System: Helps strengthen the immune system by stimulating lymph flow.
  6. Improves Flexibility: Enhances flexibility (with regular sessions) by relaxing and lengthening the muscles, reducing the risk of injuries.

Major Differences Between Deep Tissue Massage and Swedish Massage

Knowing the key differences between deep tissue and Swedish massage helps you choose the best option for your physical needs and goals. Here’s a comparison of these two approaches:

Pressure Level

Deep tissue massage is renowned for its vigorous intensity, which is crucial in reaching and releasing tensions deep within the muscle layers. This type of massage is ideal for those who can tolerate more substantial pressure and are seeking to alleviate deep-seated muscle knots.

In contrast, Swedish massage utilises a lighter touch, using gentle strokes that soothe the body and calm the mind. This type of massage makes it perfect for relaxation and mild tension relief.

Intended Usage

Deep tissue massage is specifically tailored to address chronic pain, severe muscle tension and injuries. It is particularly beneficial for recovering athletes or those with physical conditions that require rigorous therapy.

On the other hand, Swedish massage is primarily aimed at promoting relaxation and general well-being. It is an excellent choice for those new to massage therapy or looking for a more tranquil experience.

Technique Variation

Deep tissue massage involves specific, targeted movements, such as slow strokes and deep finger pressure on concentrated areas, to break up knots and relieve pressure points. Meanwhile, Swedish massage is characterised by long, flowing strokes that cover larger areas of the body. This method helps in enhancing blood circulation and relaxing the muscles uniformly.

Duration and Frequency

Typically, deep tissue massage sessions are longer and less frequent due to the intense nature of the treatment, which can lead to prolonged soreness and a need for recovery time between sessions. Swedish massage sessions, however, are often shorter and can be scheduled more frequently. Its gentler approach allows for regular sessions without significant strain on the body.

Outcome and Benefits

Deep tissue massage is excellent for making structural changes to the body, such as improving posture and mobility, reducing chronic pain and facilitating injury rehabilitation. Swedish massage, by contrast, is effective in enhancing mental and physical relaxation, reducing stress and improving sleep quality.

Deep Tissue Massage Vs Swedish Massage: Which One is Better?

Choosing between deep tissue and Swedish massage depends on your unique health needs and physical condition. For pain relief and rehabilitation, deep tissue massage may be the better choice, particularly if you can handle more intense pressure. Conversely, if your goal is to reduce stress and achieve relaxation, Swedish massage might be more appropriate.

Assessing your pain tolerance and desired outcomes—whether it’s intensive healing or relaxation—can guide your decision. Consulting with a professional therapist can offer valuable insights, helping you select the massage style that best meets your body’s needs and health goals.
