Physio Review I can’t recommend these two sisters highly enough! They are incredibly hands-on and skilled, and after each session, I can genuinely feel the blood flow improving. I always leave feeling so much better. I thoroughly enjoy my physio sessions and make sure not to be late because I know how beneficial they are. Beyond their expertise, they’re also super friendly, making every visit a great experience. Their boutique clinic in Collaroy has such a welcoming atmosphere. If you’re looking for top-notch physios who truly care, this is the place to go!

Georgia has been able to massively reduce the neck and back pain that had developed due to long hours I spent sitting at a desk and hunched over one screen or another. I had also developed a reduced range of motion and stiffness and tightness in my neck. Georgia has significantly improved that as well. I highly recommend Georgia! She also happens to be smart, funny, open-minded, and very warm and welcoming.

The girls at FlexiFit have literally put me back together. Whilst still a work in progress; the difference from when I started going to them, to now, is chalk & cheese. Not to mention the incredible customer service & the genuinely kind people Tess & Georgia are. I highly HIGHLY recommend them for all your needs !!

Georgia and Flexifit physio are the absolute bomb. I had a bunged AC joint in my shoulder and bursitis. I had immense sharp pain and could not do anything that I usually did. After a few sessions from Georgia and doing (only half) the rehab myself that she suggested,😝 my shoulder is back to 100%. And I am back surfing every day and able to play the drums again. I could not have done it without her physical manipulation skills and Motivational advice. Thank you so much For helping me avoid surgery.

Fantastic service from both Georgia and Tessa. Always very accommodating of last minute changes. Always have a smile on their faces and a friendly and professional demeanor. Top notch service, highly recommended.

I’ve seen both Tessa and Georgia on and off for years; they’re the BEST. Both of them are so knowledgeable when it comes to finding the right spots to release tension. You also get a great chat, they are genuinely interested in their clients. You’ll need to take a deep breath when they hit those tricky spots but it’s worth it, I’m addicted!!

I highly recommend Georgia and Tessa for anyone seeking professional and effective physiotherapy care. I’ve been a patient of both for many years and they have helped me (and my kids) through some pretty gruelling pain and injuries. They take the time to thoroughly assess my condition and explain the treatment plan in a way that is easy to understand. The exercises and treatments provided are tailored specifically to my needs, and I notice significant improvement in my pain and mobility after just a few visits. Both Georgia and Tessa are not only knowledgeable but also incredibly caring making each session a positive experience.Thank you to both for your excellent care.

I was referred to Georgia by an Orthopaedic Surgeon following an elbow fracture. I couldn’t be more happy with Flexifit - my elbow is improving each week and the practice is a pleasure to visit.

Georgia could not have been more caring and wonderful with our 13 year old daughter. Her treatments were not only effective but she also offered lots of great advice and a plan for going forward. Georgia also treated me and it was so good I only needed one session. Can’t recommend FlexiFit highly enough. Thanks Georgia! 🙏🏻💙

Knowledgeable and cost effective treatment

Georgia is a brilliant physio. She quickly diagnosed my problem and worked on a plan with me to get me moving again.

Georgia was awesome treating me when I was experiencing quite severe knee pain - she gave me a series of exercises as well as her treatment strategies with a very successful result. Thank-you so much Flexifit

Georgia provides exceptional service and has helped me immensely with my chronic lower back issues and degenerative arthritis. She works hard to keep my pain managed and provides me with knowledgeable advice specific to my injuries. If you are seeking a physio who truly cares and works hard to target specific issues, then look no further; it's so great to walk out of her clinic with complete relief.

I have been attending this practice since they opened and have had no hesitation in recommending Flexifit to my friends. Georgia and Tess are both professional women and the studio is so calming, beautifully spotlessly clean. It’s a treat to attend their business. The work they both do is amazing.

Flexifit is absolutely brilliant! Georgia has been my Physio for the past couple of months and she has been helping me with neck pain/migraines and knee pain. She has provided me with incredible hands-on physical support, as well as a specific and structured at-home exercise plan, that she created and adjusted based on my circumstances. Alongside the actual Physiotherapy aspect, the team at Flexifit have always been super accommodating towards my work schedule and have been happy to shuffle around appointments at the last minute. They are amazing and I can’t thank Georgia enough!

The ladies here do the best work of any physio I’ve ever been to and I’ve visited a few. Not only are they great at their job but they are nice to chat with as well. Definitely recommend them but just don’t come and steal my appointments! 😁

Georgia has treated me for three separate issues over the last four years - both in Gordon and now Collaroy I have been impressed with her competency and professionalism on each occasion. My local GP in the upper North Shore was so impressed with how well Georgia has treated my latest issue, he took all her details and said he was thinking of referring his patients that were prepared to travel from the upper North Shore to Collayoy.

Thank god I found this place. I have been suffering for years with neck and back pain, after playing baseball for years, and being a brow and lash artist for the last 5 years, I was constantly in pain and my posture was terrible. Georgia has been working her magic on me for a few months now and I have never felt so good. I can actually move my neck freely now without pain, and Georgia has given me some fantastic advise on how to best manage my training sessions with my personal trainer and the way in which I sit during work. The studio is so clean and provides a relaxing environment, and Georgia and her sister are so lovely and knowledgeable.

I have seen Georgia for a very troublesome shoulder issue I had for years. I am not able to explain adequately how impressed I am with the final result. I still cannot believe I have a pain free shoulder. Thank you Flexifit 🙏.

For the past few months I have had the pleasure of receiving physiotherapy treatment from Tessa at FlexiFit Physiotherapy in Collaroy for an ongoing neck & back issue, and I must say it has been an exceptional experience. From the moment I walked into the clinic, I was greeted with a warm and friendly atmosphere, which immediately put me at ease. Tessa demonstrated a high level of professionalism and expertise throughout my sessions. She took the time to thoroughly assess my condition, listening attentively to my concerns and addressing them with the utmost care. Her extensive knowledge and understanding of the human body were evident in her ability to accurately diagnose and develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to my specific needs. What truly impressed me was Tessa’'s ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and concise manner. She patiently guided me through each step of the treatment process, ensuring that I understood the purpose and benefits of each exercise or technique. This not only empowered me to actively participate in my own recovery but also instilled a sense of trust and confidence in her abilities. I am delighted to say that thanks to Tessa's expertise and guidance, I have experienced significant improvement in my condition. Her holistic approach, combining manual therapy, exercise prescription, and education, has not only alleviated my pain but also equipped me with the tools to prevent future injuries. I highly recommend FlexiFit Physio to anyone in need of physiotherapy services. Their professionalism, expertise, and genuine care for their patients make them an outstanding practitioner in their field. I am very grateful for the positive impact they have had on my health and well-being.

I can’t recommend the team at Flexifit highly enough! I’ve had chronic shoulder problems for 2 years and seen other specialists which hadn’t solved the problem. Tessa at Flexifit sourced the problem and after the first session, my shoulders were sitting aligned - the first time that’s happened in 2 years. I felt validated with the pain I was in and feel so much more positive about my treatment pathway with Flexifit.

Georgia’s brilliant and excels in all the areas I want from a physio - diagnosing/figuring out the prob, massage and physical work, and then exercises to do at home to help long term. Worth the 40 minute drive!

I've been seeing Georgia and Tessa from FlexiFit for the last year, and they have both been outstanding. They are caring, compassionate and highly skilled. They have assisted me with managing multiple injuries and I've referred several members of my family who are equally impressed with their services! Thank you, Georgia and Tessa, you guys are amazing!

Does Physical Therapy Help Nerve Pain

Does Physical Therapy Help Nerve Pain?

Nerve pain can be an incredibly debilitating condition, impacting every facet of an individual’s life – from simple daily activities to sleep quality. Finding an effective treatment that addresses both the symptoms and the underlying causes of nerve pain is crucial for those affected. And if you are one of those searching for relief, you probably have encountered this question: does physical therapy help nerve pain?

And the answer?

Yes, physical therapy is an effective approach to treating and managing nerve pain. Through tailored exercises, manual therapy techniques and the use of different modalities, individuals can experience significant improvements in their symptoms and overall healing process.

Does Physical Therapy Help Nerve Pain – A Quick Overview

Physical therapy is a strong supporter in fighting nerve pain. It uses different methods to help, not just manage the pain itself. By incorporating a variety of techniques, including transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) for pain modulation, manual therapies to address muscle and joint issues and targeted exercises to improve strength and flexibility, physical therapy can provide a significant reduction in pain levels and enhance overall well-being. This method not only helps in alleviating pressure on nerves but also educates patients on making lifestyle adjustments to prevent further damage. With its emphasis on personalised care, physical therapy answers the pressing question many sufferers have: yes, it can indeed provide relief for those dealing with the complexities of nerve pain.

Types of Nerve Pain

Nerve pain manifests in various forms, which shows how complex our nervous system is. The primary types include:

  • Peripheral neuropathy, a result of damage to peripheral nerves, often causes weakness, numbness and pain, typically in the hands and feet.
  • Diabetic neuropathy, a common complication of diabetes, affects nerves throughout the body, leading to significant discomfort.
  • Sciatica involves pain radiating along the sciatic nerve, which runs down one or both legs from the lower back.
  • Trigeminal neuralgia, characterised by intense facial pain, impacts the trigeminal nerve.
  • Postherpetic neuralgia follows shingles outbreaks and leaves lingering pain in the affected skin area.

Each type of nerve pain demands understanding for effective management and relief, highlighting the importance of targeted treatment approaches.

Common Causes of Nerve Pain

Nerve pain comes from different things and can happen in many ways. This shows why it’s important to have treatment plans tailored to each person.

  • Diabetes stands out as a primary culprit, with high blood sugar levels over time leading to diabetic neuropathy and affecting millions globally.
  • Injury or trauma can directly impact nerves and cause immediate and sometimes long-lasting pain as the body attempts to heal.
  • Infections and viruses like shingles can cause lasting pain called postherpetic neuralgia. This shows how viruses can affect nerve health for a long time.
  • Autoimmune diseases like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis can attack the body’s tissues, including nerves, leading to chronic pain and discomfort.

Recognising these causes is an important first step in finding effective treatments, especially physical therapy, which can bring hope to people dealing with nerve pain.

How Physical Therapy Can Help with Nerve Pain?

Physical therapy stands at the forefront of innovative approaches to manage and alleviate nerve pain. It acts as a transformative avenue for those seeking not just temporary relief but a long-term solution to this debilitating condition. By integrating a number of therapeutic techniques, physical therapists tailor interventions to each patient’s unique needs, addressing the multifaceted nature of nerve pain with precision and compassion.

Pain Management Techniques

They are a key component of this strategy. TENS utilises low-voltage electrical currents to provide pain relief by interrupting or blocking pain signals sent to the brain. This method is particularly effective for those seeking a non-pharmacological option to manage their nerve pain.

Similarly, manual therapy, including a variety of hands-on techniques, aims to reduce pain and inflammation, improve circulation and facilitate movement in affected areas. Techniques, such as soft tissue mobilisation, joint mobilisation and manipulation, can directly target areas of discomfort, providing relief and restoring function.

Strength and Flexibility Exercises

These exercises are crucial in addressing the root causes of nerve pain. By carefully designing exercise programs that enhance strength, flexibility and endurance, physical therapists can help alleviate the pressure on nerves and improve overall physical health. These exercises not only aim to reduce the intensity and frequency of pain episodes but also work to prevent future occurrences by strengthening the body’s musculoskeletal foundation.

Education and Lifestyle Changes

Physical therapy offers a proactive and empowering approach to managing nerve pain. Physical therapists educate patients on the importance of posture, ergonomics and body mechanics in daily activities to prevent additional strain on the nervous system. Furthermore, lifestyle modifications, such as incorporating a balanced diet, regular exercise and stress management techniques, can significantly impact the body’s ability to heal and reduce the risk of exacerbating nerve pain.

What Type of Physical Therapy You Should Take to Address Nerve Pain?

Selecting the most effective physical therapy treatment is deeply personal and hinges on an in-depth understanding of an individual’s specific type of nerve pain, its root causes and their overall health profile. This tailored approach ensures that the therapy not only addresses the symptoms but also works toward resolving the underlying issues.

Neuromuscular Re-education

It is a sophisticated strategy focused on restoring optimal nerve function and reducing pain. This method involves exercises and techniques designed to enhance coordination, balance and proprioception, effectively retraining the nervous system to respond differently to pain signals. Through targeted activities, patients can experience improvements in neuromuscular efficiency, which can then lead to reduced pain and enhanced movement quality.

Manual Therapy Techniques

Techniques like massage and joint mobilisation serve as crucial tools in the physical therapist’s arsenal, as they provide targeted interventions that relieve nerve compression and foster healing. Massage therapy can improve circulation, reduce muscle tension and promote relaxation. Joint mobilisation techniques, on the other hand, focus on restoring joint movement and function, which can be particularly beneficial for individuals experiencing nerve pain due to musculoskeletal imbalances.

Exercise-Based Therapy

It’s a key part of effective treatment, with personalised exercise programs designed to meet the specific needs of individuals suffering from nerve pain. These programs may include stretching exercises to improve flexibility, strength training to build muscle support around affected nerves and aerobic conditioning to enhance overall fitness. Such a well-rounded exercise regimen not only addresses current symptoms but also improves the body’s defences against future nerve pain episodes.

Wrapping Up

For individuals suffering from the often incapacitating effects of nerve pain, physical therapy emerges not just as a treatment option but as a comprehensive solution. With its array of pain management techniques, strength and flexibility exercises and a strong focus on education and lifestyle changes, physical therapy addresses both the symptoms and underlying causes of nerve pain. It provides a holistic approach to healing, emphasising personalised care and targeted strategies to ensure the best possible outcomes.

For those asking whether physical therapy can help with nerve pain, the answer is a resounding yes. It offers a path to not only managing pain but also reclaiming a life defined by mobility, strength and wellness.
